boo says "There are no UFOs. There are only tourists."

A minute ago the Phoenix probe landed on Mars. Earthlings once again crash Mars' party. Congratulations to us! We are now officially an UFO on Mars. To all Martians: "Sorry for the intrusion. We're here to check out the local scene, try the food & pick up some souvenirs for the guys back home."

boo is in need of a life!

Streamyx's been uncooperative all day. So I threw myself into house chores & laptop housekeeping. Came across food images library & decided I deserved a little pampering. Put the kettle on, made a pot of Earl Grey. The simple act of breaking out some ginger biscuits made me delirious with excitement. Well you would too if for the past 6 months you've had nothing but relentless work for company!

boo says "When mama in bad mood, stay out of kitchen"

Big violent sounds from the kitchen. Peeped at doorway. Saw Momma hammering cloves of garlic with the flat of the chopping knife with more than the usual... vigour. I hazzarded a query, "Ahem, you ok?"

She replied without looking up, "No more badminton (to watch on tv)"

I backed out real slowly keeping her well in my sights...

If that wasn't enough she later added: "I should give Rexy (Mainaky) a bag of garlic when he is sitting in the sidelines. When he gets stressed out he can bang some garlic for me."

Me smart. Me no comment.

boo lost nerve

Felt a gentle tremor at about 10.30pm? I did. Was lap-topping on the sofa. TV running in the b/g. Felt a little dizzy. Noticed the sofa was swaying from side to side. Lasted app. 4 seconds. Bounced up, woke & grabbed Mom. Trotted to ground floor, passing exiting neighbours. Mom and I sat in the car, ready to scoot out of carpark at first sign of more earth movements. Or worse, falling debris. Half an hour of sitting out in the car. Friend sms-ed me to confirm a 5.9 quake hit Northwest of Sumatra. Imagine, only took a 5.9er to 'move' KL.

boo says "Japs are really the smartest people; they know to let sleeping cats lie"

Resident cats

Staying on the topic of cats... Another neighbour's cat - a black beauty, elegant and aloof. I think I have only seen it once or twice ever so briefly outside its apartment. Most times it perches on the ledge of its balcony watching the world beneath. Or perhaps looking out for prey!

There is another little grey tabby who carries itself like a PR man. He works the floor! Not a trace of discomfort amongst strangers. He made a bee line for Mom twice. Considering Mom is seldom outdoors, that is is high hit rate! The first bee line he made was interrupted by me. He was successful the second time when he managed to corner Mom and made himself acquainted right away. Mom told me he even did a little dance for her benefit!

New grey & white friend

As I walking to the lift just now, I came across this neighbour's cat that I have been seeing for some weeks now. Pretty grey and white, mid length haired beauty. Has a very distinctive walk where its legs are never bent. So it gives the impression of a ballerina. During all this time, it has kept its distance though I would gently call out to it (still can't tell if it's a he or she). But it would hardly acknowledge and be on its way like it is just too busy to stop. A cat with on a busy schedule.

Well I guess it managed to clear its schedule last night because it made a bee line for me. Came right up for a few hearty rubs to boot. Looked up so sweetly as if to ask "So what's up with you lately?" I wanted to say, "Not much really. Just waiting for you to finally come around..."

boo waiting for dogfight

All day been hearing air activity overhead. Not sure if they're choppers or jets. Certainly not commercial crafts. Was stuck beneath laptop so did not get up to look out of window. Fly-by activity started late this morning. Pretty sure one or two more in the afternoon. What gives?

boo says "Have you ever seen lace made out of lightning?"

Can't remember which flight. London to KL? KL to London? Irrelevant detail. Aircraft way above the cloud line. Dark but not pitch black. Advanced dusk. Cabin lights out. Most passengers quietly dozing under blankets. I like it like this when all is still and dark on a plane. I peered out the window aimlessly. Then I saw it. Spreading out from the beneath the aircraft was this awesome silver lightning transmitting across the carpet of clouds all the way to the horizon. That very moment, I named it Lightning Lace.

boo says "Eggs... when they have too much sugar & cocoa, they go cuckoo"

Joke aside. Delightful campaign. Single-minded message. Clean art direction. Spot on execution. High on entertainment value. Never seen an egg with so much personality!

boo is sick as a parrot again

This Year of the Rat has hardly gone 2 months and already it has trampled me resoundingly with its tiny paws! I 'celebrated' CNY with one of the most persistent cough that I have ever had - lasted nearly a month. Last Thursday, barely weeks from recovering, I got KO-ed again by a cold and cough... Still coughing like an old truck!

boo says "Beware of 6 year olds"

I started taking flights by myself since I was 6. But for my very first flight Ipoh - Kota Bahru my aunt accompanied me so I could spend school hols with my parents stationed there. The adults worried I would freak out & needed acclimatisation for my first flight. I didn't protest because I was too young to know to freak out. The Fokker engine did sound alien. There were moments of air turbulence. But the nice pretty stewardesses all doted on me! Travelling kids wearing the "Young Passenger" badge always got the first and best of anything! I was the first to get settled in by the nice "cheh cheh" stewardesses. I was the first to get refreshments. And any amount of refills. More! I got served for-kids-only treats like special complimentary sweets and toffees in baby blue MAS sweet wrappers (still remember the colour)

Here comes the part that assured my doubting aunt I was more than capable to travel on my own after that. This also turned out to be the source of acute embarrassment. And she HATES to be embarrassed!

Shortly after takeoff, a nice "cheh cheh" stewardess offered me candy from a wide tray filled with candy. At that moment, my 6 yr old brain processed "MAS = Candy Land!"

Without a word, I opened my aunt's handbag. With both hands I relieved the stewardess of the tray and poured EVERY SINGLE LAST CANDY into the bag. Then politely returned the empty tray with a soft, "Thank you, cheh cheh". If she was stunned, she was very professional about it. Not a gasp. Not a single raised eyebrow. Not a hint of anything. She simply smiled and went to refill her candy tray. Talk about killer customer service. And it was a domestic flight, mind!

My aunt was silent for the rest of the flight. She cringed. I binged.

During subsequent flights alone I continued to leverage my "Young Passenger" status. Each time I landed my parents and aunt were greeted with a grinning kid, arms clutching all sorts of MAS 'souvenirs' - face towels, cutlery, cups, stationery, toys, snacks, cookies, cushions and of course candy! Anything that was removable, I pretty much asked to keep as souvenir! And the nice "cheh cheh" stewardesses always fell for my 'innocence' and good manners. They even pack the stuff I ask for into cute doggie bags, throwing in goodies I didn't even ask for. I really enjoyed air travel as a child. Seriously I loved MAS because MAS loved kids! :)

boo saw four kids and a cat

Today from my office window I spied 4 kids playing with a cat on the porch of their house... Don't think the cat is theirs (either a neighbour's but most likely a stray)... I love cats. Always pleases me to see a cat...
